Jennifer Gilmer Kitchen & Bath, Ltd. Chevy Chase, MD
Designer: Jennifer L. Gilmer, CKD
Design Notes: A world traveler and collector of objets d’art, the client sought a sleek kitchen design that incorporated her collection. Broad shelves over two side-by-side single wall ovens provide a showcase for favorite pieces. Light granite counters and a frosted glass tile backsplash balance the dark wood cabinets.
Products and Materials: Bosch wall ovens, cooktop and ventilation; mother-of-pearl granite countertops; Corsi Symphony Euro cabinets made from composite rift-cut white oak.
2009 NKBA Award: Small Kitchens – Second Place
Binns Kitchen + Bath Design Pickering, ON
Designer: Beverly Leigh Binns
Design Notes: To create a kitchen where the cook’s two children could help, the designer opened a hallway, moved a powder room and added a pantry. The new L-shaped kitchen offers access to the deck and the dining room, provides a built-in seating area, and looks modern while referencing the home’s traditional design.
Products and Materials: Wolf range, Faber Diamante vent hood, Silestone Blanco Maple quartz countertop, Artcraft Kitchens cabinets.
2009 NKBA Design Award: Small Kitchens – Third Place
Partners 4 Design Minneapolis, MN
Designer: Roger W. Zierman

A combination of metallic, matte and glossy finishes in neutral shades for the walls, cabinetry, appliances and flooring complete this sophisticated kitchen, designed for entertaining.
Products and Materials: Silestone Red Eros quartz countertop, Poggenpohl acrylic cabinets with Cubanit high-gloss finish; Calcutta Gold marble floor, horizontal glass tile backsplash in Encore Beige from Artistic Tile’s Opera Glass collection; Gaggenau appliances.
2009 NKBA Design Award: Small Kitchens – Honorable Mention
Design First Kitchen Interiors Ottawa, ON
