Kitchen Cabinet (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) Door Styles

June 7, 2009

In design of Kitchen Cabinet,  we will need to consider different kitchen cabinet door shapes and styles. Kitchen cabinet designer or manufacturer may offer hundreds of door styles in an endless array of finishes. If your kitchen has a minimal stainless steel look, consider a slab door. If ornate details cover your kitchen, take a look at a raised cathedral panel to complement this style.

Your options for cabinet door style include:

Slab
If we  like clean lines, a slab door may be the good choice. A flat door that essentially looks like a slab of wood, metal or other material, these doors eschew panels.

Raised Panel

A panel, usually made by joining pieces of solid stock lumber with adhesive, is secured to the door’s frame.  A routed edge profile tends to give the door a more elegant appearance.

Recessed Panel
The recessed panel door is a flat panel affixed inside a frame constructed with miter or mortise and tenon joints. The resulting appearance has a picture frame-type look and a simpler.

Curved Panel
The top portion of this door’s decorative panel curves upward in a gentle arch. The panel itself is generally raised.

Cathedral Panel
A cathedral-type arch is incorporated into the upper rail of this raised or recessed panel.

Beadboard Panel
Typically found in a recessed panel, beadboard uses routed beaded details to create a casual country style.

Design Of Kitchen Cabinet

April 9, 2009

Kitchen Cabinet

Kitchen Cabinet

The design (layout) of kitchen cabinets will be based on the space available in your kitchen. When you design your kitchen cabinets, keep in mind the appliances you need such as a fridge, stove, dishwasher or even a washer and a dryer. Small appliances installed on the counter such as a microwave, toaster oven, rice cooker or blender can also affect your layout.

The basic design for kitchen cabinets is a straight line across the longest wall, call as single line kitchen design,  this kitchen design layout arrangement places all equipment, sink, range, refrigerator and cabinetry along one wall. It’s the easiest to build, but isn’t the most creative layout.

Other popular shapes are the L and the U, but the shape you choose will  depend on the kitchen space  available. L-shaped kitchen design places the kitchen on two perpendicular walls. The L-shape usually consist of one long and one short “leg” and lends itself to an efficient work  triangle without problem of through traffic. U-shaped design place the counters and appliances are all arranged along three walls in a U-shaped kitchen design layout. The greatest benefits to this plan are the easy traffic flow.

Regardless of which design you decide to use, it is generally a good idea to plan to have the fridge and stove a fair distance away from each other – the heat from the stove could affect how well your refrigerator works.

When you’re planning, try to draw out your new kitchen on a sheet of paper with scaled measurements of your actual kitchen. This will give you a good idea of how much room you have to play with and where things will fit best. If you are planning to install an island, make sure you allow yourself enough room to move around your kitchen with ease.

When deciding on installing or renovating your kitchen cabinets, there are several things you must consider:

  1. The layout of the kitchen.
  2. The type of material.
  3. The doors and drawers.
  4. The countertop.
  5. The accessories.
  6. The sink and faucet.
  7. The strength of your kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen Work Triangle

December 29, 2008

The goals of a good kitchen work triangle are to place the three most common work sites the most efficient distance apart and to minimize traffic through the work zone.

In the traditional kitchen the three main work sites are:

  • Refrigerator – the cold storage work site
  • Sink – the cleaning/preparation work site
  • Stove – the cooking work site

The concept for the kitchen work triangle was developed by the Small Homes Council of the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois in the 1950’s. An invisible “work triangle” is created in the kitchen by the arrangement of the sink, stove and refrigerator.

Rules of thumb for the basic work triangle are as follows:

  • No one side of the triangle should be greater than nine feet or less than four feet.
  • The triangle should not be interrupted by traffic or cabinetry.
  • The perimeter of the triangle should measure no more than 26 feet and no less than 12 feet.

There is some debate, today, among professional kitchen designer concerning the traditional work triangle. Although most agree kitchen work triangle is still an important element in kitchen design, may see the triangular space evolving as cooking habits and lifestyles change. These kitchen designers feel that the more actual living done in the kitchen, the more expanded the basic triangle will have to become and kitchen grow larger – which appears to be the trend – they will embrace an increasing number of activities. This will result in the need for several autonomous triangles within the room. We maybe need to plan a kitchen design for two or more cook, include an island with extra sink and cooktop and create multiple work triangles in kitchen design.
